Mother Sues Tyra Banks Over Daughter's Appearance on Sex Addicts Episode

A mother of a 15-year-old girl has filed a $3 million lawsuit against Tyra Banks, claiming that her child appeared on a teen sex addicts-themed episode of Banks' talk show in 2009 without her permission, according to The Associated Press.

In the suit, Beverly McClendon says the show contacted her daughter on her cell phone after the girl responded to the show's website seeking "sex addicts." McClendon claims the girl was picked up in a limo and flown to New York, where she was put up in a hotel, all without McClendon's knowledge. The girl has never been diagnosed as a sex addict, the lawsuit says.

McClendon, who says she filed a missing person's report with local police when she discovered her daughter was gone, says she and her daughter suffered damages because the show "was undoubtedly watched by sexual deviants, perverts and pedophiles." The lawsuit also names Warner Bros. Entertainment and the executive producers of Banks' epononymous show, which ended in May.

Millionaire Matchmaker Hits Manhattan

Patti Stanger is storming New York for her fourth season of Millionaire Matchmaker (Tuesday, 9/8c, Bravo), but from what Los Angeles' most caustic Cupid tells us, she doesn't exactly have it made in Manhattan when it comes to her East Coast clients. Here, she lets loose on the core issues plaguing the Big Apple's moneyed singletons.

Geography drama
"The women are snobby!" marvels a still-shocked Stanger. "They are city snobs. They won't go to the suburbs or Long Island or upstate. They have to date the Manhattan gentleman... I was like, oh, my God, I never dated geography." That said, she does head to New Jersey in Episode 2 to help the sons of Real Housewives mama Caroline Manzo. "That was real fun."

Numbers game
Simple but sad math made Stanger's job even tougher after more millionairesses than ever — including one she refers to as "the ultimate Jewish American princess" — enlisted her assistance. "The season is dedicated to the women," she says. "And isn't that [fitting], since there are five women to one guy in Manhattan?"

Debatable dating pool
Stocking her meet-and-greet mixers with a stable of sexies was "a rough ride," confesses Stanger. "The ugliest girls in the world showed up! And then we had the bada-bing Italian experience, you know? The Staten Island boy makes big... that was very funny, very Tony Soprano."

The natives are restless... and rude
"There's a bitterness," observes Stanger. "I call it bitta-bitta-bitta. Both of my gays this season were bitter. They were not attractive, thought they were hot crap... [they were] loaded and bitter! It was disgusting. I deserve a GLAAD award after this one!"

NBC Orders Full Seasons of Chuck, Chase

NBC has picked up Chase and Chuck for full seasons, the network announced Tuesday.

Since its Sept. 20 premiere, Jerry Bruckheimer's Chase has averaged 6.5 million viewers, while Chuck, currently in its fourth season, earned a 24-episode commitment with an average of 5.9 million viewers. Meanwhile, four additional scripts have been ordered for the network's new spy drama Undercovers, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The news comes on the heels of full-season pickups for new series The Event, Law and Order: Los Angeles and Outsourced. The network previously announced that production on new legal drama Outlaw was shut down, but has not officially canceled it.

ABC Developing New Version of The Incredible Hulk

Is The Incredible Hulk next in line for a TV reboot?

Marvel and ABC are developing a show to bring the angry green giant back to television, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The previous Hulk TV series, which starred Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, ran on CBS from 1978-1982. NBC also aired three TV movies with Bixby and Ferrigno reprising their roles in the late 1980s.

The news follows reports that David E. Kelley is developing a TV return for DC Comics character Wonder Woman.

The Incredible Hulk has twice been adapted for the big screen. Ang Lee's 2003 film, Hulk, underperformed at the box office, while its 2008 successor, The incredible Hulk, performed only slightly better. A sequel to the latter film is planned, with Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton in the lead role. It is unclear if Marvel, whose films are creating a shared universe for its characters, will link the TV series to the films.

After five seasons playing Supernatural 's cocky demon hunter Dean Winchester, Jensen Ackles tries out his directing talents on this week's episode, "Weekend at Bobby's" (airing Friday at 9/8c on The CW).

"I'd been studying the technical aspects of directing over the years, so the producers finally told me, 'If you want do this, it's yours.' They wrote an episode that was light for [Dean] and focused on Bobby [Jim Beaver], who's trying to regain the soul that he sold to [the demon] Crowley [Mark Sheppard]. And they were nice enough to move the episode to the beginning of the shooting schedule so I had time to prep."

Being behind the camera was pretty "daunting," Ackles admits, but costar Jared Padalecki, who plays Dean's younger bro, Sam, went easy on him. "He gave me more slack than he's given any director in our 113 episodes." Now that's some brotherly love.

According to last night's How I Met Your Mother, the talk-show host is apparently the most-seen celebrity around the Big Apple. Gamely playing along, Povich popped up in a slew of scenes as the gang raced around town, trying to beat one another to a restaurant where Woody Allen (apparently the holy grail of "did you see who that was?") was having dinner.

Of course, it wasn't Allen at the eatery — in fact, it was Povich in typically frumpy Woody-wear — but the joke had us wondering if Povich has become the better-employed equivalent of Times Square's Naked Cowboy.

Three faces of Boardwalk Empire grace a photo studio in Manhattan's meatpacking district on a sunny Saturday: Gretchen Mol is glowing, not only because she's expecting her second child, but because her makeup's done and she now sits rosy-hued as her stylist affixes fiery-red extensions to her blonde locks. Michael Pitt, the very image of laconic Hollywood cool in his gelled locks and pinstripes, lounges on a sofa languidly strumming his acoustic guitar. Finally, a haggard Steve Buscemi shuffles in. He's here on two hours sleep, having worked till 4am directing an episode of Nurse Jackie. He plops down, takes one look at the tape recorder in front of him and grouses, "I got nothing."

Still, he rises to the occasion when discussing his new gig, and why not? After only a few weeks, HBO's surfside drama Boardwalk Empire is a smash. The gorgeous, painstakingly re-created story of Atlantic City circa 1920 and the attendant sin and intrigue unleashed by the enactment of Prohibition has received near-unanimous kudos from the critics. More important, it has killed in the ratings, with its September 19 premiere notching the highest debut number of any HBO series since 2004.

Buscemi plays Nucky Thompson, who serves as Atlantic City's treasurer but essentially runs the town, overseeing above-board business while ruling its underworld, which now includes the very lucrative distribution of contraband booze. "I love the period, and I love this part," Buscemi gushes, the coffee starting to kick in. "Nucky is painted with a lot of different colors." Adds creator Terence Winter, "He's essentially a politician, but with an asterisk. To do that job effectively, you are a gangster in a sense."

He's not the only one who's doing his job effectively. "The show's getting this kind of attention because it's being done right," says Pitt. "Everyone involved has been really, really professional." Of course, professional doesn't begin to describe the show's brain trust, led by Oscar winner Martin Scorsese, who serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot, and Winter, who came to the gig fresh off a seven-year stint as a writer on The Sopranos. Between Boardwalk and Mad Men, the creation of Winter's former Sopranos colleague Matthew Weiner, it's already shaping up to be an interesting night at the Emmys next summer.

HBO's certainly hoping its investment pays off — the pilot reportedly cost upward of $15 million, much of which went toward constructing an eerily accurate 300-foot boardwalk on NYC's East River waterfront. The first season features more than 100 different locations and extravagant crowd scenes with hundreds of extras.

"I wasn't looking to do a series," admits Buscemi, who did a limited arc on The Sopranos and has a film career most actors would die for. "You always get asked about doing TV and the grind of playing the same character for many years... I hope it's for many years! I'm just so relieved to get something of this quality."

If Boardwalk's whole seems to exceed even the sum of these top-shelf parts, it's because the players immersed themselves in the show's time and place. "Every single person really did their homework on this," says Pitt, who plays Nucky's protégé, Jimmy Darmody, a traumatized WWI vet—turned—hood. He not only got a hold of every book referenced in the script, but acquired a shelf's worth of history texts and hired a tutor. Reflecting on his character, Pitt says, "What makes Jimmy complicated is that he's always tried to do the honorable thing, and he's constantly conflicted by when is it OK to commit murder, for your country or in business." A personal tragedy will show just how gangster Jimmy can be — and instigate his return from Chicago (where he's been hanging with Al Capone).

Soul Singer Solomon Burke Dies at 70

Solomon Burke, a soul music pioneer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee whose songs blended soul, gospel, country and R&B, has died. He was 70.

Burke died early Sunday at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, according to The Associated Press. He was scheduled to perform in Amsterdam on Tuesday. Burke's family said in a statement on the singer's website that he died of natural causes.

Burke's biggest hits include his first single, "Cry to Me," and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," the latter of which he wrote in 1964. The song was recorded by the Rolling Stones, but it is perhaps most famous for its use in The Blues Brothers, starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

Dirty Dancing also popularized "Cry to Me," which was featured in the background as stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey danced seductively in one of the film's most memorable scenes.

"This is a time of great sorrow for our entire family," the family's statement read. "We truly appreciate all of the support and well wishes from his friends and fans. Although our hearts and lives will never be the same, his love, life and music will continue to live within us forever."

Although his popularity never matched that of contemporaries James Brown or Marvin Gaye, Burke was acknowledged as one of the 1960s' greatest soul singers. Jerry Wexler, a producer for Atlantic Records, Burke's label, once called Burke "the best soul singer of all time," according to the AP.

Burke was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and won a Grammy the following year for his contemporary blues album, Don't Give Up on Me. Those recent honors created new interest in Burke's music, and he had toured the world in recent years, often playing songs by request rather than following a set list, according to his website.

Burke fathered 21 children, and had scores of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The actor wed You Again's Odette Yustman Sunday in an outdoor ceremony attended by 215 family members and friends in Ojai, Calif., reps for the couple confirm to us.

Walking down the aisle to the tune of "All You Need Is Love" by The Beatles, Yustman donned a Monique Lhuillier gown. Annable, clad in a DKNY suit, stood with best man and costar Matthew Rhys. Brothers and Sisters' Ron Rifkin officiated the ceremony.

Annable, 31, who stars as Justin on the ABC series, popped the question to his girlfriend of two years, 25, over Valentine's Day weekend.

"I [proposed] at a place where we fell in love," the actor told Us at the time. "It was in Santa Barbara [Calif.], and I surprised her with her parents and my parents after [the proposal]. We went to the [hotel] restaurant...and our parents were there waiting. It was pretty rad! She was very surprised."

Prior to their walk down the aisle, the couple hinted that their ceremony would be an extravagant affair -- mostly to accommodate "a lot of crazy uncles, drunk aunts, the works!" Annable joked to Us. Added Yustman, "It'll be a big party."

Jane Lynch Brings Some Glee to Saturday Night Live

Jane Lynch, the epitome of the ensemble actress, topped off her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live with a song that jokingly claimed her character, cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, was the only reason to watch Glee.

Lynch, who's also starred in SNL alum Christopher Guest's ensemble mockumentaries, sang what she maintained should be the Fox series' theme song — co-written by two bottles of Jose Cuervo.

The show kept its focus on Glee in the night's first full sketch, as Lynch played Sylvester, who introduces Kristen Wiig's troublemaking character Gilly as a new student. The skit mostly poked fun at Glee's characters, highlighting the often one-note use of Mercedes (Keenan Thompson), Artie (Fred Armisen), Kurt (Andy Samberg) and Mr. Schuester (Jason Sudeikis).

Lynch dueled with Wiig during the show's recurring Password spoof. Wigg, portraying a self-obsessed actress who always says the secret word, was matched by Lynch's Phyllis Diller-like, self-deprecating comedian who delivers jokes instead of clues.

Lynch let newcomer Jay Pharoah run wild with a spot-on Denzel Washington impression in one sketch, while delivering most of the zingers as a promiscuous mother during the "The New Boyfriend Talk Show."

Lynch also was employed in the latest commercial spoof ("Damn It, My Mom Is on Facebook Filter") and digital short. In the first, she played a mom who discovers social networking, and she was a too-close-to-her-patient relaxation therapist in the second.

As overlooked middle child Sue Heck on ABC's The Middle, 18-year-old Eden Sher has caught our attention, making us want to learn more about the girl behind the braces.

She used to have stage fright. "I was really shy when I was little and there was this mandatory school performance in first grade. I refused to go on, but my mom forced me and it was like, 'Click, love it!' Once I realized that I didn't die on stage, it was really great."

She doesn't wear braces. "It's great because they change my entire face shape," Sher says. "It's bizarre how much of a difference they make. I never ever get recognized. I guess I'm a little more hip and stylish than Sue."

What she did on her summer vacation... "I took an art history class — I thought I'd become a little more cultured. I feel like I understand references that people make more."

If she wasn't acting... "Maybe I would be a Pilates instructor — I'm really big into Pilates!"

Her dream Sue Heck plot involves Reverend TimTom. "[That] was one of the funnest episodes of Season 1," exclaims Sher of Sue pining for a guitar-strumming pastor. "If he returns, all of my wildest dreams would come true!"

"Burning Dan," Brother of Joseph Gordon Levitt, Dies at 36

Dan Gordon-Levitt, the older brother of Joseph Gordon-Levitt better known as "Burning Dan," has died. He was 36.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt tweeted the news Tuesday evening and wrote a post on hitRECord.org, his collaborative website on which Dan was a partner.

"BURNING dAN brightly embodied that bold beastly bliss sometimes referred to as 'the creative spirit,'" he wrote. "He was my chief collaborator on the foundational incarnations of hitRECord.org over the years and continues to inspire us ever the more. He would absolutely positively insist that we not let this bad news deter us on our collective mission. That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while."

A rep for the Inception star told us that no further details will be released at this time.

A fire-spinner and professional photographer, Dan founded Flow Temple, a school and performance group in Venice, Calif., for Flow Arts. Flow Arts is "a fitness meditation practice that puts bodies in balance and motion," according to his website.

In his biography on the site, Dan said he started practicing body movement at age 7 and got involved with Flow Arts in 2002 after attending the Burning Man festival. He eventually became one of 28 worldwide leaders of the official Burning Man Fire Conclave troupes, his biography said.

He traveled the world teaching and performing fire-spinning. The brothers often performed together — Dan fire-spinning with Joseph, 29, on drums — and uploaded videos on hitRECord.org and YouTube.

In January, they promoted hitRECord.org at the Sundance Film Festival in the New Frontier Performances and Installations field.

Because of their uncanny resemblance, Dan was often mistaken for his more well-known sibling — which he said was "wonderful."

"He taught me to question the relationships other people have with their siblings because he would be my favorite person in the world even if I wasn't lucky enough to know him as my brother," Dan told PopEater in August. "He's just awesome in every way that I pay attention to. I ask myself, 'Do I love him because he's my brother or is he really that awesome?' He's really, really awesome

Fox Picks Up Raising Hope For Full Season

Fox is picking up the freshman comedy Raising Hope for a full season, the network announced Wednesday, making the series the first new fall show to get a such a pickup this year.

"With Raising Hope, Greg Garcia captures a smart take on the working-class family with a great mix of wild comedy and a big dose of heart," Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said in a statement. "The show is running like a Swiss clock, and we're very happy with how well audiences have responded so far — so we're confident it will build an even bigger audience throughout the season."

Raising Hope premiered to 7.5 million viewers last month. The series' most recent episode attracted 6.3 million viewers. The show has benefited from its lead-in, Glee.

The series, starring Lucas Neff and Martha Plimpton, follows a young man who becomes a single dad and how his family helps him raise the baby. The series comes from My Name is Earl creator Greg Garcia.

"I'm really happy for our incredibly talented cast and very hard-working crew. They have done an amazing job and deserve this," Garcia said. "Me? I was looking forward so some time off, but I guess that's not going to happen."

"You're Going to Meet a New Horatio Caine" By CSI: Miami Producer

CSI: Miami producer Barry O'Brien says he isn't worried one bit about the show's move to Sunday night.

"We're answering the call with essentially a relaunch of our entire series in every category," O'Brien tells TVGuide.com. "It's rarefied air that you breathe when you've been on the air for nine seasons. It's an amazing achievement, and we want to respond with appropriate gratitude and a sense of growth, both in terms of the characters and stylistically."

O'Brien's energy and excitement is evident as he starts discussing storylines for this season. The CSIs will investigate a crime with a literally disappearing murder weapon. One murder will be "witnessed" by a blind bystander. But the story O'Brien is most eager to tell is that of a massive prison break, which will provide headaches for crime lab leader Horatio Caine (David Caruso), who will try to corral the fugitives all season long.

"It puts a group of Horatio Caine's most desperate and dangerous enemies on the street gunning for him," O'Brien says. "You're going to meet a new Horatio Cane. He's going to be unleashed, unrestrained in suspect's faces in a way that he's never been before. He's more passionate than ever, and more dramatic and more compelling from a character standpoint. It's a David Caruso you haven't seen and certainly won't forget.

"A hero is only as effective and as dynamic as his opponent, and we're working to bring more dangerous, more unpredictable opponents, killers and criminals in Horatio's sights," O'Brien continues. "His new style will be born out of that. He's going to rise to that occasion and sort of has to up his game and become just as dangerous as his opposition."

But what about that pesky Season 8 cliffhanger that left everyone but Horatio and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) unconscious in the crime lab after being poisoned? "The survival of our whole team is in their hands, and I can say that one of our CSIs will not survive," O'Brien says. "The shock of losing one of our own really brings our team closer together than ever and recreates that tight-knit dynamic that made the series what it is.

"We were getting into a bit of fragmentation in Season 7 and Season 8," O'Brien continues, noting that Eddie Cibrian's exit from the cast is "a chance to really bring this unit back together and have them work for each other. They are far stronger as a team than they are as individuals. They each bring unique pieces of the puzzle together, which makes the whole better than the sum of its parts. As we put them into high-octane situations, they need each other to survive."

So, expect some of those team members to become more important. O'Brien says DNA analyst Natalia Boa Vista (Eva La Rue) will be personally connected to several of this season's cases. "You're going to see revelatory glimpses into her past and into who she truly is," he says. "I think Natalia is a character with a secret. She's got a stormy ex-marriage that was abusive. So we're going to use her more in the field, in the line of fire."

And with Rodriguez rejoining the cast full time, expect continued exploration of Delko's back-and-forth relationship with Calleigh (Emily Procter). "There may be some new elements that threaten their future together," O'Brien teases. "You can look to Season 9 to clearly define their relationship, but before we do that, we're going to take them on quite a journey."

O'Brien says part of the show's rejuvenation will also take place behind the camera. The show has tapped David Arquette to direct at least one episode this season, and O'Brien says the crew is hopeful Rob Zombie will return to direct as well.

"We're evolving and you're going to see that process on the screen," O'Brien says, emphasizing a new sense of urgency in the way the camera moves. "You're going to see more edge, more excitement. We're bringing a sense of vitality to these stories and these episodes, and we're going to stress the action part of the action-procedural."

But you can bet Horatio's sunglasses and one-liners aren't going anywhere.

"David Caruso has created this iconic character. The character isn't going to change. It's going to be familiar, but we're going to take it to another level," O'Brien says, again reinforcing how much this season relies on Horatio's character. "We want to go forward and go deeper, and an inevitable part of that is mining the almost unknowable character of Horatio Caine."

Kanye West Departs from Usual SNL Musical Performances

Kanye West stole the show by departing from Saturday Night Live's usual musical guest appearances, eschewing the standard setting and using an all-white otherworldly room surrounded by dancers, which effectively made his performance look like an ambitious music video.

Typically, SNL performers are backed by the Grand Central Station-themed stage in Studio 8H. But for his first number, "Power," West went with the different setting. It culminated with West atop a staircase placing a crown on his own head.

Again backed by the dancers in the same setting, the second number, "Runaway" — which he also performed at the VMAs — found West creating his own beats on stage before diving into the song.

Amber Tamblyn's in the House

With House 's Thirteen MIA while Olivia Wilde shoots back-to-back films (she's expected to return to Princeton-Plainsboro before season's end), House has tapped Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn to fill the void as med student Martha M. Masters. "Considering how horrific House is to doctors, just imagine him being your first mentor," says exec producer Katie Jacobs. "Her first challenge is: Can she stay on House's team?"

It's Cuddy who "insists House hire a woman, because she feels there's way too much testosterone on the team," Lisa Edelstein says. "Cuddy picks Masters and sort of shoves her on House."

Amber's debut in Episode 6 finds Dr. Masters treating an underhanded political campaign manager (Heroes' Jack Coleman), who develops hepatitis C. "I'm the case of the week, so I worked with almost all the doctors, including Amber, who was fantastic," reports Jack. "I think people are going to love and relate to her role — a socially awkward kid who was always a little ahead of everyone else."

Jacobs says it's too soon to pair up Masters romantically, even with randy Dr. Chase (Jesse Spencer). Jesse agrees that they wouldn't be a good match. "She's too uptight for him and too much like what [ex-wife] Cameron [Jennifer Morrison] used to be," he says. "She comes in all wide-eyed and moralistic, and Chase loves watching House devour her. He takes her to the cleaners and it's hilarious."

By the way, Jennifer tells me she wishes Amber good luck in the role. But as for returning to House, Jennifer says she hasn't been in recent contact with anyone from the show. When she left, "they guaranteed me three more episodes — if they write them. So if they do, I'll, of course, make myself available," she says. (No easy task since she's now on CBS' How I Met Your Mother). "But if they decide not to, they still have to pay me."

Steve Nash Salutes Canadian Icon Terry Fox for ESPN's 30 For 30

Imagine running a marathon. Now imagine doing that every day for 143 straight days. With an artificial leg. In the spring of 1980, Terry Fox embarked on his ambitious Marathon of Hope, running across his native Canada to raise awareness and money to fight cancer, the disease that led to the amputation of his right leg. The cancer resurfaced late in the summer and Fox lost his battle a year later at age 22, but not before he became a national folk hero. "Within our borders, he is our greatest Canadian," says NBA star Steve Nash, who makes his directorial debut (alongside his cousin Ezra Holland) with Into the Wind, a rousing and emotional profile of Fox for Tuesday's installment of ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series.

"I remember waking up every day that summer turning on the TV to see where Terry was," says Nash, who was an impressionable six-year-old living on Vancouver Island at the time. "It was a special moment of time. Looking back on it it's more and more incredible that it actually happened, that it got news and notoriety and it galvanized a nation. And it still exists: They've raised half a billion dollars, people still run in Terry Fox Runs, they still talk about Terry Fox in school here. It's just one of those quintessential Canadian stories that I think Americans will really enjoy."

The film mixes archival footage and recent interviews with Fox's family and friends, some of which present an unvarnished look at Fox, who had some (understandable) moments of irritability during the Marathon of Hope. "The biggest challenge was just trying to stay true to Terry," Nash says. "He was the understated superhero, we didn't want to depart from his essence and build him up too big. He was a pretty normal guy and we wanted to allow people to see that."

Fox won the Lou Marsh Award as Canada's top athlete in 1980, an honor that has gone to household names like hockey stars Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr, figure skater Kurt Browning and Nash, who took the trophy in 2005, the year he won his first NBA MVP award. "Terry was an athlete, that's what he was," says Nash, who is about to begin his seventh straight season as the Phoenix Suns' point guard. "It was well deserved, in a purely athletic sense — not just as a novelty — for what he accomplished and the physical and mental pressure he faced. Any time you get a chance to be put in the same category as a hero of yours, it's pretty incredible."

Lone Star Burns Out; The Event, Five 0 Slip

Not everything is bigger in Texas: Ratings-challenged Fox drama Lone Star continued to struggle Monday night, perhaps sealing the show's fate.

The freshman con-man drama dropped to only 3.8 million viewers and averaged the same rating among the adults 18-to-49 demographic as it did last week, according to Nielsen overnight estimates. However, the show's demo rating dropped 44 percent in the second half hour, falling to last place behind Gossip Girl. Lone Star again dumped more than 60 percent of its House (10.1 million viewers) lead-in.

Other new shows saw second-week slides as well: NBC's The Event (9 million viewers) was down 19 percent in the demo, while CBS' Hawaii Five-0 (12.3 million viewers) and NBC's Chase (6.4 million viewers) slipped 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

ABC won the night overall on the strength of a two-hour episode of Dancing with the Stars (22.6 million viewers) and Castle (12.4 million viewers). Dancing was down only 6 percent in the demo from a week ago, while Castle grew an outstanding 19 percent. (That number is likely to be adjusted due to Dancing's overrun and an ABC affiliate in Green Bay running Monday Night Football.)

CBS took second place, with How I Met Your Mother (9 million viewers) and Rules of Engagement (8.1 million) improving slightly in the demo, and Two and a Half Men (13.9 million viewers) and Mike & Molly (11.2 million viewers) falling a notch.

Chuck kicked off third-place NBC's night with 5.3 million viewers, falling 5 percent in the demo. Fox took fourth place, while the CW's 90210 (2 million viewers) and Gossip Girl (1.8 million viewers) each held steady.

During premiere week, CBS took top honors, improving 3 percent in the demo and 6 percent in total viewers from the same week a year ago. NBC tied with ABC for second, as the Peacock also showed improvement in the demo and total viewers versus the previous year. ABC and Fox, which placed fourth, fell 15 percent and 16 percent in the demo, respectively.

Overall, the five broadcast networks were down 5.5 percent in the demo compared to a year ago.

Criminal Minds: How Will the Team Deal with the Loss of JJ?

On Wednesday's episode of Criminal Minds, the members of Behavioral Analysis Unit — and viewers — will say goodbye to Agent Jennifer Jareau.

JJ's exit comes after CBS abruptly let A.J. Cook go for creative reasons during the break between seasons.

"It is like losing a member of the family very suddenly and without any warning. That's always difficult," castmate Thomas Gibson tells us. "Everybody is still mystified and always be as to the reasons for this. I don't understand it, and I'll never pretend to understand why they had to do it. But it's a huge loss and it there's now a void there."

JJ's exit will come as she and the team tries to reunite a family whose daughter has mysteriously disappeared. "We've always intimated that JJ's character has connections outside of our world — other more powerful elements in the government," executive producer Simon Mirren tells us. "Those powers that she's connected with come back into her life. So basically, what we're saying is, our loss is going to be someone else's gain.

"You see how the characters are in control of the cases and the people they go after," Mirren adds. "But outside of that they realize that the FBI and the powers that be are more powerful than they are."

With JJ seemingly on to bigger and better things, the focus will be on how the team reacts to being a man down. "Quite often after any show loses a big star, you see a spike [in interest] after their exit because the fans want to know how the family will cope with that loss," Mirren says. "So that's our main focus at the moment: to deal with that loss and how our main characters react to it. You get a lot of story from that, and your hand is sort of forced to see those characters' lives more."

Gibson says the real-life emotion surrounding Cook's exit will be mirrored on the show. "It was an interesting challenge and an interesting show to shoot," he says. "We're just trying to keep the ball in the air ourselves. We tried to integrate a little bit of what was happening in reality into the show. We didn't try to neatly wrap up something that we didn't feel could be neatly wrapped up."

And while the plan is ultimately to bring in a new team member, don't look for it anytime soon. "The team has a choice to replace her or not. That's one of the surprises that people don't know about," Mirren says. "Our family has lost a member, and they're irreplaceable. But also somebody has to do that job [as communications liaison]."

"Even if they were to bring somebody else on in the future, the space left by her character is obviously never going to be filled," Gibson adds. "We miss her a lot, and we were lucky to have the time with her when we did."

Oprah Hosting Sound of Music Reunion

Hear that? That's the sound of a Sound of Music reunion on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, along with co-stars Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) will reunite for the first time in 45 years on the talk show on Oct. 29.

The cast will share stories and secrets from the set, and the Von Trapp Children — a singing group featuring members of the real von Trapp family — will perform a tribute to the film.

The film won five Academy Awards in 1966, including best picture and best director for the late Robert Wise. Andrews was nominated for best actress.

Football Still Rules, While Family Guy and Dexter Post Strong Showings

Another Sunday, another ratings win for NBC.

Sunday Night Football, featuring the New York Jets vs. the Miami Dolphins, dominated the evening, giving NBC an easy victory, with 15.9 million viewers and a 6.5 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic on a night when no new series debuted.

Fox's hourlong Family Guy posted the best showing among scripted fare, according to early Nielsen estimates, with 9.1 million and a 4.5 rating, despite dropping 13 percent from last year. It was preceded by The Simpsons (7.8 million viewers, 3.7 rating) and The Cleveland Show (6.6 million, 3.1 rating), both of which were also down significantly versus last year.

Still, CBS likely placed second, but its prime-time lineup was affected by a National Football League overrun. 60 Minutes, which ran from 7:47 to 8:47 p.m., drew 13.9 million viewers and a 3.8 rating, while a 90-minute premiere of The Amazing Race 17 and Undercover Boss both earned about 11 million and a 3.6 rating.

ABC's Sunday flagship Desperate Housewives was the network's top show of the night. The seventh season opened to 12.8 million with a 4.2 rating, but was down about 11 percent from last year. Housewives was bookended by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (8.4 million, 2.5 rating), which was also down from a year ago, and Brothers & Sisters(9.6 million, 3.0 rating), which was on par with last year's premiere.

Looks like Glee's Kurt has a new boyfriend.

Singer-actor Darren Criss has joined the Fox hit as a new gay student named Blaine, a source close to the show tells us. Blaine hails from a rival glee club called the Dalton Academy Warblers and will befriend Kurt (Chris Colfer).

While Fox has yet to comment, the source says that Blaine will become Kurt's boyfriend later this season. Creator Ryan Murphy previously announced plans to introduce a love interest for Kurt this year.

Entertainment Weekly first reported Criss' casting.

Criss has guest-starred on Eastwick and Cold Case.

Sterling Beaumon must have a thing for playing creepy killers.

The 15-year-old actor, who played a young Benajmin Linus on Lost, is set to guest-star on Criminal Minds, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Beaumon will play Jeremy, a young boy who is suspected of killing families in the Midwest.

Mare Winningham (ER, Grey's Anatomy) also guest-stars in the episode as Nancy Riverton, a woman who takes in Jeremy.

Beaumon, who recurred in Lost's time-tripping fifth season, played a young Ben, before he grew up to be the deadly leader of The Others, as portrayed by Emmy winner Michael Emerson. Beaumon has also appeared on ER and Bones.

Criminal Minds returns Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c on CBS. Beaumon's episode is slated to air in October.

Smallville Star John Schneider Joins Desperate Housewives

Green will play Bree's contractor and love interest during the upcoming season.

Men of a Certain Age's second season will reunite Quantum Leap actors Scott Bakula and David Newsom, we has learned exclusively.

Newsom, who played Bakula's brother, Lt. Tom Beckett, on Quantum Leap, will play Mark, the younger sibling of Terry (Bakula), on the hit TNT drama. Mark is happily married with two children and runs his own successful home systems integration business.

Terry, who now works as a car salesman with his friend Owen (Andre Braugher), hasn't seen his brother for some time. Terry decides to try to reconnect with him at his nephew's birthday party.

Newsom, 48, is best known for his role as Lt. Hank Metcalf on Homefront. He has also appeared on Melrose Place, Suddenly Susan, CSI, The Mentalist and Supernatural.

Men of a Certain Age, which also stars Ray Romano, returns for its second season on Monday, Dec. 6 at 10/9c on TNT. Newsom's episode is slated to air Jan. 3, 2011.

The 56-year-old TV host has them lined up for Thursday's show, according to her website.

On Sept. 1, police say James Lee was shot by dead by officers as his three captives were trying to escape after a nearly four-hour standoff in Silver Spring, Md. The hostages included two Discovery employees and a security guard; Winfrey's website did not indicate if she was interviewing all three.

Winfrey just kicked off her final season on Monday, before she launches the Oprah Winfrey Network with Discovery in 2011.

Airport Detainment Made it Clear We're Soul Mates

Spencer Pratt is hoping his 12-hour detainment in a Costa Rican airport will bring him and estranged wife Heidi Montag back together.

"It was clear we're soul mates. I don't see any reason we can't get back on track," Pratt told The Associated Press.

Over the weekend, the couple was held in Costa Rica after security officers found two unloaded handguns in their luggage.

Pratt, 27, was coming back from a jungle retreat for "self-improvement" while Montag, 23, stayed at a villa nearby. They maintained that that the guns were for protection as they travelled to and from Costa Rica by private jet. Although they hadn't declared the weapons and had no permits with them, the Pratts were released after questioning and allowed to return to the U.S., police told the AP.

"As far as I'm concerned the last thing in the world after everything we have just been through is to go through with this divorce," Montag said.

In July, she filed for divorce. The couple married on their reality show The Hills.

Upon their return to California together, Pratt asked Montag if he could join her at a fundraising walk for cancer and she agreed, the AP reported. And noting that that Wednesday is Montag's 24th birthday, Pratt said he hoped to use that as a chance to "sweep her off her feet."

When Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) return to D.C. from Paris in Bones ' September 23 season premiere, they'll be bringing back a much better souvenir than a plastic Eiffel Tower trinket. "Angela's pregnant!" says Michaela, who planned to keep the exciting news secret until Fox's promo department included the spoiler in a preview clip. "I was bummed they decided to do that."

Well, at least now the actress is free to discuss the happy news. "I have to be honest, at first I was a little hesitant," she says. "To marry this wild child off and get her pregnant had me worried that this would limit her, story-wise. But I now feel, getting in to the sixth season, it's going to be interesting to see her try to fit her wild life into this maternal situation."

Since, as Michaela noted, Angela is such a wild child, who's to say that a handsome Frenchman isn't the baby daddy? "I am pretty convinced Hodgins is the dad," insists Michaela. "Only because we were just married. That would be very slutty of her. This time, I think she played it right."

The drama, she says, will come in other ways. "We're going to see them pursue very unconventional doctors," Michaela teases.

Bones creator Hart Hanson says we should also expect Angela's pregnancy to have an impact on Brennan (Emily Deschanel), who has seemingly abandoned her plans to have Booth (David Boreanaz) donate his sperm to her. "Everything that happens will force Brennan to reevaluate all of her decisions from last year," Hanson says. "We leave nothing hanging."

Life Unexpected Season 2 Preview

While the relationships between characters were messy in Life Unexpected's first season, things are about to get even messier: In Season 2, Cate (Shiri Appleby) and Ryan (Kerr Smith) will be navigating their new marriage, Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) will deal with rejection, and Lux (Britt Robertson) will dive head-first into a May-December relationship.

Life Unexpected creator Liz Tigelaar: "Cate and Baze aren't over"

Season 2 opens on Lux, Ryan and Cate's return from the big honeymoon — but not all is well in married land. "Cate and Ryan are dealing with very grown up issues in beginning a marriage," says executive producer Liz Tigelaar.

"Every happy couple isn't happy for that long," Robertson says. "There's a lot of secrets that are revealed about both of them and they're learning how to deal with it, and if they can deal with it. There's some stuff from Ryan's past that hasn't been revealed either, and he isn't the perfect guy that Cate thought he was."

They're not the only relationship evolving this season. Says Tigelaar: "They're still all the same immature f---ed up people they always were, but on scale, they've grown up a bit."

Even Baze will move on from his failure to stop Cate and Ryan's wedding with the introduction of Emma, (Buffy alum Emma Caulfield).

"Baze is so desperate to move on from Cate that he really needs a new relationship," Tigelaar says. "It starts as a hate-hate relationship, but they definitely have sparks. She has a lot of walls up and has a lot of reasons for not wanting to be involved with him."

As for Lux, an interesting proposal will send her running away from Bug and into the arms of a new teacher named Eric (Shaun Sipos). "It's a very platonic relationship that gets out of hand," Robertson says.

"They feel something instantaneously for each other," Tigelaar says, adding that the attraction between them springs from Lux always relating to people older than her; she's an old soul herself. "Lux is going through her own struggles this season and hasn't had a lot of people who have consistently been there for her, so he's a person who really wants to do that."

"It'll be about how they have to abide by these rules," Tigelaar continues. "Lux so badly wants to be a normal teenager, but when she bumps up against continually trying and not feeling normal, she throws her hands up and goes to the other side of it. Certainly, pushing to get involved with somebody you shouldn't is not normal."

Parenthood Season 2 Preview

The first season of Parenthood focused on the youngest of the Braverman children. There was Max's Asperger's Syndrome, Haddie's first love, Amber's disastrous one night stand, Crosby's surprise son. In its second season, the focus will shift to the parents.

"[Adam and Kristina] are still trying to figure out Max's condition while raising Haddie, a teenager, and also dealing with their own issues, of which there are many and more to come," Monica Potter tells TVGuide.com. "It's a scary thing because the divorce rate of parents that have kids with Asperger's [Syndrome] is very high, so they're working on that first."

As Kristina and Adam (Peter Krause) grapple with their existing issues, Julia's (Erika Christensen) desire to have a second child will make things tense with her husband, Joel (Sam Jaeger).

"Julia decides she wants a second child, which is a grand idea as soon as she can get her husband on board with it," Christensen says, adding that this season will feature alone time between the couple.

"There's a big miscommunication and she doesn't really realize that they're not on the same page there. She lets her enthusiasm blind her."

The Bravermans' relationship troubles extend to patriarch Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) and Camille (Bonnie Bedelia). She may have allowed him back in the house following his bad business decision and even worse personal indiscretions, but the two will continue to work at their relationship.

The only non-committed sibling, Sarah (Lauren Graham), won't be lonesome for long, thanks to two possible new suitors. "The only single one, having all the fun," Christensen jokes.

Parenthood's new season premieres Tuesday at 10/9c on NBC

One Tree Hill's Season 8 Will Return

When One Tree Hill ended last year, several characters got happy endings. Brooke (Sophia Bush) got her proposal, and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Nathan (James Lafferty) found out they were expecting Baby No. 2. (Left-for-dead couple Clay (Robert Buckley) and Quinn (Shantel VanSanten)? Not so much.)

Series creator Mark Schwahn says when the show returns on Tuesday (8/7c on The CW), the good times won't immediately be ripped apart. In many ways, Season 8 will be a return to the heart of the One Tree Hill, focusing on the faces we've been watching since the beginning. Here are some of the changes — the return of Lucas? -- viewers can expect to see when the show returns:

Brooke gets to be in love for good. Brooke Davis is no stranger to heartbreak. She was on the losing end of the love triangle with Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton), she never had a strong bond with her parents, and she was physically attacked in Season 6. But Schwahn says that she's finally found her way in her relationship with Julian (Austin Nichols). "Last year we threw a wrench into that, but they overcame that and I want to respect the fact that they did. So whatever obstacles befall Brooke in Season 8 ... [she'll] face those with Julian by her side," he says.

Alex finds a new triangle. As "the wrench" in Brooke and Julian's relationship last season, Alex (Jana Kramer) has moved on to a new guy and a new triangle. She took a liking to Chase (Stephen Colletti) after he and Mia (Kate Voegele) broke up, but in the final episode, Mia made it clear via text that she regretted the decision to end it with him. This season, viewers will see who Chase really wants to be with. "[Alex] took an interest in Chase at the end of the year," Schwahn says, adding that "the Chase-Alex-Mia situation is front and center at the beginning of the season."

Less characters. Schwahn admits last season introduced too many characters; there were more than 30 with multiple-episode arcs. This time, there will only be a dozen so that "the supporting characters support the core audience like they once did."

The return of an opening theme song. Fans noticed the song synonymous with the series, Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Wanna Be," disappeared for good in Season 5. Schwahn felt that not only was the message no longer appropriate for the characters after a four-year time jump, but that he wanted those extra 42 seconds devoted to story time. But fans missed it, so he changed his mind. Just don't expect to hear the same song. "I thought, 'Let's have a guest artist redo the title every week. Aimee Mann is going to do one, Patrick from Fall Out Boy did one. It's great to hear the female voices like Susie Suh and Kate Voegele," he tells us. But don't worry, Gavin isn't gone for good. He'll start out the season, pop up again mid-season and then finish it out.

Less crazy storylines. With kidnappings and psycho stalkers, One Tree Hill isn't exactly known for its ties to reality. But with Season 8, Schwahn would like to change that. "A girl who has a potential in-law she has to meet and hopefully get along with right away? That made a lot of sense to me. It's something that's relatable and that's where we'd like it to live as opposed to her coming to town and kidnapping someone." Schwahn is referring to the upcoming storyline of Brooke, who will be meeting Julian's mother Sylvia (Sharon Lawrence) soon. He also says that he wanted to shy away from the show's evolution into a world of fame and wealth. "We have a very 20-something audience, and when you look at [their] world, it's a bit of a struggle economically, " Schwahn says. Last season Nathan was a basketball star in the center of a scandal, but this season will shift the focus to him as a family man. "I wanted to tell stories about Nathan as a young father and husband as well."

Lucas will be back. Well, sort of. Schwahn says the premiere begins with, "Dear Lucas," an episode written from Haley's point of view. And he does hope for Chad Michael Murray (Lucas) and Hilarie Burton (Peyton) to return. "If Brooke's wedding is approaching, I think it would be nice to see Peyton and Lucas and their family... If Haley has her baby, it's nice to have the opportunity to see Lucas. Fans were disappointed when Haley's mom passed away [and Lucas was absent]. In my mind, Lucas was at that funeral we just didn't see him." Although Schwahn knows that it's realistic for friends like Lucas and Haley to grow apart, he adds, "it's always nice to revisit who you were when you were growing up, and especially people who were so important to your lives. I'd like to see them again."

Aquaman Returns to Smallville's final season

When it happens, don't expect him to stick to the rules. "A lot of moral lines get crossed," Bomer says. "When it comes to Kate, he doesn't always make the most rational, healthy decisions." Naturally, this will create tension between him and straitlaced Fed Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). The trust between the partners remains "always liquid, never rock solid," Bomer says.

With good reason: Neal's also allied himself with former love and current fence Alex (Gloria Votsis). "We get to do a lot of fun To Catch a Thief—style scenes, a lot of flirtatious banter," Bomer says. As for that ever-mysterious music box? Bomer will divulge that Agent Fowler (Noah Emmerich) is "the man who has a lot of answers" — but that's about it. "I've definitely learned a lot from Neal's playbook," he says. In the opening scene of the new season of "Mad Men," an interviewer asks Draper, "Who is Don Draper?" Rather than confess the truth — that he's a flimflam man who fabricated his whole identity from a dead Korean War officer and built his entire life on a lie en route to a Madison Avenue advertising career — Draper merely takes a drag on his cigarette. "I'm from the Midwest," he says. "We were taught it's not polite to talk about yourself."

In a sense, "Mad Men" is (show creater Matthew) Weiner's attempt to figure out this question for himself. He has created an elaborate pageant of American fantasies — guys and dolls who look like they have it all, even when their private worlds are complete frauds. Of all the attractive evils in the world perhaps none is much more insidious than the desire to blame others for our own misfortunes. If history is any judge, scapegoating never loses its appeal and, specifically in economic downturns, it can be extremely dangerous for those poor souls (or social groups) blamed for events over which they had no control. What's tragic about falsely assigning responsibility for disasters (like lost wars and financial collapse) is that pointing fingers and screaming does nothing to address the real problems. But gleaning what I can from cable news shows, determining who is to blame for a calamity is more important than getting out of one. Which is wherever we find Assistant Chief Will Pope in The Closer's next episode, "Off the Hook."

Major Crimes gets a call from a woman who senses someone else is in her house. Rattled, the potential victim can't answer questions properly, and while Detective Sergeant Gabriel tries to calm her, his phone line goes abruptly dead. As Brenda tries to sort through the aftershocks of this terrible conversation, Pope explodes and, for the first time ever, personally gets control an investigation.

The results bring even the overtly political Commander Taylor into conflict with his stressed-out boss. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Johnson must follow the thin, frail thread connecting a detective from LAPD's threat management, a convict in Folsom prison who has thrice been denied parole and a murdering drug addict locked-up at the county jail. Playing in the final for the first time, Spain became the first European team to win a World Cup outside of Europe.

It was unclear whether global interest would match soccer officials' hopes, but there were encouraging signs: Saturday's 3-2 German victory over Uruguay, for third place in the tournament, set a German television record of 30 million viewers (40 percent of the population). And while soccer is nowhere near as popular in the U.S. as it is in much of the world, a record-setting 14.86 million viewers tuned in to watch the U.S. team lose to Ghana, sealing its elimination.

Sunday's game was probably not the type to win new fans to the sport, critics of which complain that not enough happens (to the blank stares of die-hards). However, ABC issued a statement Tuesday clarifying that the images over the closing credits were not part of the narrative of the final episode. "The images shown during the end credits of the Lost finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the episode but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news," it said.

Boone Carlyle died Nov. 1, 2004, from massive internal bleeding from injuries sustained after falling from a cliff in a small plane. He was 22. A survivor of the Oceanic 815 plane crash, Carlyle was the stepson of Adam Rutherford and son of Sabrina Carlyle, the owner of a successful wedding business, for which Boone was the chief operating officer. Tortured by his devotion to and unrequited love for his stepsister, Shannon Rutherford, Carlyle became John Locke's assistant in uncovering the mysteries of the island, including numerous attempts to open the hatch. Carlyle boarded a heroin-laden Nigerian Beechcraft that crashed on the island. Just before the plane fell from the cliff, Carlyle established radio contact with other Oceanic 815 survivors.

Shannon Rutherford died Nov. 8, 2004, from a gunshot wound to the stomach. She was 20. Following her survival of the Oceanic 815 plane crash, Rutherford was best known for her pedicure and love of sunbathing. After slowly giving up on the notion of rescue, Rutherford used her French-speaking skills to translate a 16-year-old radio transmission and maps of the island, during which she developed strong feelings for fellow survivor Sayid Jarrah. She died tragically in Jarrah's arms after being accidentally shot by fellow survivor Ana Lucia Cortez.

Ana Lucia Cortez, a Los Angeles police officer and survivor of the Oceanic 815 plane crash, died Nov. 24, 2004, after being shot by fellow survivor Michael Dawson. She was 29. Known for her hard-as-nails attitude and deep-seated emotional issues, she found it hard to earn her fellow survivor's trust after she accidentally shot and killed Shannon Rutherford. Cortez herself killed Goodwin Stanhope, an impostor posing as an Oceanic 815 survivor.
