ABC: Closing Credit Images Not Part of Lost Series Finale

Many Lost fans scratched their heads after Sunday's two-and-a-half-hour series finale, and not just because of that golden tunnel of light.

After the final image of the series, a close-up of Jack's eye closing, the closing credits featured images of the Oceanic 815 wreckage on the beach and the sound of the waves lapping the shore. Many interpreted this final scene to mean that none of the castaways survived the plane crash that began the series, which would also mean that almost the entire series was not real.

However, ABC issued a statement Tuesday clarifying that the images over the closing credits were not part of the narrative of the final episode. "The images shown during the end credits of the Lost finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the episode but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news," it said.
